Cleaners covering Buckingham
Buckingham is the former county town of Buckinghamshire and it is used to its business being done from somewhere else: Aylesbury took the county town title centuries ago, the railway station closed to passengers in 1964, and the nearest platforms now are Bicester and Milton Keynes Central. We are in that category too, and would rather say so plainly. MyT is a Bedford company, 25 people in one building, with no office, no unit and no MK18 phone number in the town. What we have is the road, 30 miles of A421 ending on the Buckingham bypass, and a start time agreed before we set off.
The town is small, 14,294 people at the 2021 census, but the housing is not one thing. On 15 March 1725 a fire took 138 of the town's 387 houses, and Castle Street, Castle Hill and the north side of Market Hill came back Georgian and have stayed that way: sash windows, deep skirtings, old timber floors. Round the edge sit the later estates, Page Hill, Bourton, Linden Village, and Lace Hill, named for the pillow lace Buckinghamshire women once made at home. Now there is a third wave: up to 420 homes off Osier Way and Gawcott Road, Bellway at Moreton Fields, and 130 more allowed on appeal west of Moreton Road.
So the cleaning a town like Buckingham generates splits three ways. Landlords and agents with property near the university's three Buckingham sites, Hunter Street, Chandos Road, which houses the medical school, and Verney Park, turning a flat round between tenants. Site staff who want plots finished before anyone arrives with a snagging list. And businesses on the Tingewick Road estate and Swan Business Park off Osier Way, where the offices bolted onto working units still have to look right on a Monday morning.

The safeguards that matter, on every job.
Buckingham's cleaning year does not run on the usual calendar
Most university towns have one end-of-tenancy season. Buckingham has two. The University of Buckingham was Britain's first private university and it teaches two-year honours degrees, eight terms in two years instead of nine in three, with September and January starts on almost every course. Around 3,300 students from more than 90 countries arrive and leave on a rota unrelated to the June-to-August pattern, so a void week here can land in midwinter.
The town has no railway station, so commuters drive to Milton Keynes Central or Bicester. Winslow's new station is built but no services are running through it yet and the East West Rail start date is still unconfirmed, so for now that journey has not changed. Day to day it means a Buckingham house is often empty from seven in the morning to seven at night. That is the window a regular clean has to fit, which is why keys get sorted before the first visit, not on the doorstep.
Then there is the water. Buckingham grew up inside a bend of the Great Ouse, and the river rises fast. In November 2024 Storm Bert took it to 2.31 metres and put water through dozens of homes, with Ford Street, Bourton Park, Chandos Park and the Cornwalls Meadow car park all under. The town council's flood plan puts a flood serious enough to reach houses at roughly once a decade. Cleaning comes after the drying-out, which is a separate trade; once a house is dry and safe the carpets, upholstery and hard floors are ours.
It is a school town as well. The Royal Latin School on Chandos Road takes over 1,260 pupils, The Buckingham School on London Road around 1,100, and Stowe sits three miles up the A422. Buckinghamshire still runs the eleven-plus, which keeps family houses changing hands and the rental market tight. Add the Tuesday and Saturday markets on Market Hill and domestic, commercial and site work all sit a few minutes apart.

End of Tenancy Cleaning in Buckingham
The University of Buckingham runs January starts as well as September ones, so lets here come empty in midwinter as well as at the end of summer. The void week here is set by the university's calendar, not the school year. Give us the check-out date and we will work back from it.

Osier Way, Gawcott Road, Moreton Fields and the Moreton Road site are releasing in small phases rather than one large handover, which suits a pair working plot by plot better than a crew arriving at once. Tell us which plots and when they are due, and we will sequence the work to match.

Two reasons this comes up here. The Georgian streets around Market Hill and Castle Street have carpet on narrow, turned staircases, which is hand work rather than machine work. And the low ground by the Great Ouse takes water, so after a flooded house has been dried out the carpets and upholstery still need cleaning.

Buckingham's working floorspace sits mainly in two places: the Tingewick Road estate, under a mile west of Market Hill, and Swan Business Park off Osier Way, home to firms including Racelogic. Units, welfare rooms, kitchens and the offices attached to them, fitted into the gaps in your working day rather than across it.

Between the Royal Latin School, The Buckingham School, their feeder primaries and Stowe up the A422, term dates govern a lot of this town. We clean Stantonbury School in Milton Keynes, half an hour back along the A421, so term-time routines, holiday deep cleans and DBS-checked staff are ordinary ground for us.

Much of the housing here is not in the town at all. Maids Moreton, Gawcott, Padbury, Chackmore, Akeley: village houses with more floor than a town house and nobody home during the day. The MK18 villages sit on the same roads as Buckingham, so a village address does not put you out of the way.

Ford Street, Bourton Park and the ground by Cornwalls Meadow sit low, and once a flooded house has been dried out the whole ground floor wants taking back: inside the kitchen cupboards, behind the appliances, skirtings, door frames and window tracks. Away from the river it is the ordinary version, a spring clean on Page Hill or Lace Hill, or a house being got ready to sell.

Where a house has stayed in one family for decades, often out at Maids Moreton, Gawcott or Padbury, it is usually a son or daughter, or an executor with a probate sale ahead, who arranges it. In the Georgian streets there is the practical side too: a front door straight onto the pavement and one staircase, so everything leaves by hand. Room by room, at your pace.

Lets around Hunter Street, Chandos Road and Verney Park hand a kitchen back twice rather than once, and an oven covering a shared house shows it by the second term. We take it apart as far as it is designed to come apart, do the glass between the panes, and send photographs before and after, which is what an agent wants to see. Same on the family cookers in Bourton and Castle Fields.

Buckingham's older centre has narrow frontages and nowhere to stand a ladder on a market Tuesday or Saturday, so gutter work here is booked for a quieter day. Out in the villages, Chackmore, Akeley, Dadford and Maids Moreton, leaves fill gutters every autumn, and a blocked downpipe shows as a damp patch inside long before anybody looks up.

Cleaning in Buckingham, answered
Buckingham is 30 miles from Bedford. Does that actually work?
Yes. One road most of the way, about 45 minutes when the Milton Keynes stretch is clear.
We are down a single-track lane out past Dadford. Is that a problem?
The MK18 villages either side of the town: Maids Moreton, Gawcott, Tingewick, Padbury, Akeley, Chackmore, Thornborough, Adstock, Steeple Claydon, Dadford, Leckhampstead and the Lillingstones among them. The lanes out to Dadford, Leckhampstead and the Lillingstones are single-track in places, so say if a long-wheelbase van will struggle at your end.
Can you do an end of tenancy clean for a January changeover?
Yes, and here that is a normal request. The University of Buckingham runs September and January starts on nearly every course, so tenancies in the town end at points in the year that catch out firms working to the usual student calendar. Give us the check-out date and the address.
We are buying on one of the new estates off Moreton Road. Can it be cleaned before we move in?
Yes, and timing usually matters more than the cleaning: the Buckingham sites hand over in small phases, so a plot can come free with little warning. Send the plot number and the handover date.
Our ground floor flooded when the Great Ouse came up. Can you clean the carpets?
Once the house has been dried out and made safe, yes. We are a cleaning company, not a flood restoration or drying firm, so while the floor is wet you need those people and your insurer first.
Our house is Georgian and listed. Are you happy working in it?
Yes. Much of the centre was rebuilt after the 1725 fire and the frontages on Castle Street, Castle Hill and Market Hill are listed. In practice: no blades or harsh chemicals near old glass, putty and paintwork, nothing heavy hauled up a narrow staircase, and care around lime plaster and bare timber.
