Cleaners covering Stevenage
MyT Clean & Maintenance works out of Bedford, about 27 miles across country from Stevenage. There is no MyT office, branch or depot here: our vans come in on the A602 in the morning and go home the same way at night. That is what decides how we book you in, so if a job needs starting before a site opens, or between shifts, say so and we set off early.
Stevenage was laid out to keep cars away from front doors: over 40km of separated cycle track, dozens of underpasses, and parking pushed behind the houses into garage courts and service roads rather than left at the kerb. On plenty of streets in Bedwell, Shephall and Chells the closest a van gets to your door is the far side of a footpath, so we ask where to park before the day, not on it.
We are a team of 25. Tara Alexander started the company in 2021 after years as a construction project manager, which is why the paperwork side of a job is not an afterthought.

The safeguards that matter, on every job.
A town that was drawn before it was built
Stevenage was designated in 1946 as the first New Town in the country, built as a ring of planned neighbourhoods around Britain's first purpose-built traffic-free shopping centre. That leaves whole streets of one house type, same decade, same layout, same hall, stairs and landing carpet run.
The Old Town predates all of it. The High Street was made wide for coach traffic on the Great North Road and still has timber-framed 17th-century buildings and former inns with archways through to the old stable yards. Older brick, softer lime mortar, a conservation area around the lot, and the Six Hills down London Road, the largest surviving group of Roman burial mounds in England.
Renting matters more here than people expect. Stevenage Borough Council owns and manages 7,971 homes, with another 1,446 flats sold on long lease where the council kept the freehold, and a private rented sector on top serving commuters, because fast trains reach King's Cross in a little over twenty minutes. There is no university here, so end of tenancy work does not arrive in one September heap.
Gunnels Wood Road is one of the largest employment areas in the East of England. GSK, Airbus and MBDA are all on it, with Costco, Sodexo and LifeArc nearby and the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst alongside, home to Europe's largest cluster of cell and gene therapy companies. Our end of that is offices, welfare areas, canteens and washrooms, worked around shifts and site security.
The centre has been mid-rebuild for years and still is. Claxton House has topped out on the old Swingate House site with 261 homes in it, named after Eric Claxton, the engineer who drew the cycleway network, and the old Matalan site on Danestrete is being built out to 526 flats. Behind both sits SG1: 1,867 homes across 14.5 acres running down Danestrete and along Southgate towards Six Hills Way. Autolus finished The Nucleus on the old Marshgate car park and has made CAR-T therapies there commercially since 2024.
Knebworth Park, two miles south of the station, takes crowds of up to 120,000, more than anything inside the town handles. Multi-day outdoor events are already on our books, at the Milton Keynes National Bowl.
The jobs Stevenage asks about
Every service below is available across Stevenage and the villages around it.
End of tenancy cleaning in Stevenage
Close to 8,000 council homes, 1,446 leasehold flats and a private let market built around the commuter line means properties come empty here all year rather than in one seasonal rush. We clean them empty, before the check-out inspection rather than after it.

There is live construction in the middle of Stevenage: Claxton House, the Danestrete blocks, the later SG1 phases and the 281 homes approved beside Great Ashby off Haybluff Drive. We do sparkle and final cleans before handover, and dust-downs for buildings still in use next door. SMAS Worksafe accredited and DBS checked.

The Bioscience Catalyst holds dozens of small companies alongside the household names on Gunnels Wood Road, and those buildings want cleaning early, late or at weekends by people who can sit through an induction and hold a pass. Offices, meeting rooms, kitchens and washrooms are our end of it, not cleanrooms or GMP areas.

Away from the desks there are the units off Gunnels Wood Road, Pin Green Industrial Estate, the shops in the pedestrian centre and the pubs along the Old Town High Street. A trade counter, a workshop floor and a restaurant kitchen need three different sets of chemicals, so we price them separately.

New Town housing was built to a handful of repeated layouts, so the hall, stairs and landing take the same beating in every one of them. The flats have the other version of it: communal stair carpet everybody walks on and nobody owns. We clean occupied homes, empty ones between tenancies, and communal areas.

A town planned around footpaths and rear parking has a lot of hard surface: block-paved drives, garage courts, communal paths and bin stores across the estates, and the council has been refurbishing its garage blocks for years. Old brick and lime mortar up in the Old Town takes the other extreme, so we match pressure and nozzle to the surface.

A council tenancy or a leasehold flat comes with inspections, and a deep clean is what people book when one is in the diary: inside the cupboards, behind the appliances, the limescale off the tiles. Houses in Bedwell, Shephall and Chells were built to the same few layouts, so we already know where the awkward corners are. Up on the High Street the older buildings get gentler products.

The council is the landlord across a large part of Stevenage, so the arrangements are often made by a housing officer or a support worker rather than by the tenant alone, and the aim is usually to keep someone in their home. Access shapes the work too: a flat reached along a footpath with the parking back in a garage court changes how waste leaves. We settle that first.

Streets of a single house type mean streets of a single kitchen, so a landlord with several properties around Broadwater or Pin Green is looking at the same built-in oven and hob each time and the visits are easy to plan. It is also the part of a flat most likely to hold up a check-out. Door glass split where it comes apart, filters out of the hood.

Knebworth Park is two miles south of the station and takes crowds of up to 120,000, far more than anything inside Stevenage handles, and a field that size is cleared between show days rather than at the end. Toilets, welfare units and litter through build-up, live days and breakdown, from a team of 25 rather than one van.

Absolutely love working for MyT on the Bell Project. Tara has been brilliant from the start with setting us up, great communication and so very appreciative of the work we’re doing. We love working for you guys and hope this is the start of a long working relationship.
Fantastic company, very happy with the results. Will be using for my weekly cleaning & deep cleans going forwards.
Cleaning in Stevenage, answered
The front door is on a footpath and the car is in a garage court. How does that work for you?
Tell us when you book and we work it out beforehand. Much of Stevenage has the cars behind the houses and the front doors onto a footpath, so the nearest legal spot for a van is often a garage court, a service road or a visitor bay rather than the kerb outside.
Which parts of Stevenage and which villages do you cover?
All of SG1 and SG2, from the Old Town and centre through Bedwell, Broadwater, Shephall, Chells, Pin Green, Symonds Green and Great Ashby. Beyond the town: Knebworth and Woolmer Green down the B197, Datchworth and Watton-at-Stone towards Hertford, Walkern, Benington, Ardeley and Cottered east, Graveley, Weston and the Wymondleys towards Hitchin. The lanes past Walkern and Ardeley are narrow with few places to turn, so say if a long van is a problem.
Can you clean a rental before I hand the keys back?
Yes. Council tenancy, leasehold flat or a private let through an agent, we clean it empty so the check-out inspection sees a finished property. Give us the date the keys go back and we work backwards from it. If your landlord or housing officer has their own standard, send it over.
Our building issues passes and runs an induction. Can your cleaners get through that?
Yes, early morning, evening or weekend, whatever fits your shift pattern.
Our building is on the Old Town High Street and it is listed. Is that a problem?
No, but it changes the method. Timber frames, lime mortar and old glass do not take what a 1950s brick semi takes: lower pressure outside, gentler products inside, nothing soaked that will hold water. Tell us at the enquiry stage if it is listed or in the conservation area.
Who gets the invoice, me, the agent or the tenant?
Whoever books it, unless you tell us different. A good deal of the housing here is council leasehold or let through an agent, so the person who opens the door is often not the person paying. Say at booking whether it goes to the landlord, the agent or the tenant. Call 01234 862437.
